We played in the finals with Goleadoras of New York! Our squad had a busy day playing on the 48th floor of the 10 Hudson Yards skyscraper in Manhattan. The age 40+ women of San Diego Soccer Women traveled from San Diego, Boston and Long Island to play together for Sustainable Development Goal #10: Reduced Inequalities.

“In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 goals for a better world by 2030…we decided to make it a sport.”

The Global Goals World Cup is an international soccer initiative created by Danish Sports organization Eir-Soccer in collaboration with The UN Development Program and other partners. It is the mission of Global Goals World Cup to merge soccer with sustainable development advocacy in a vibrant soccer tournament. Building a global community for amateur women who wish to play ball and change the world.

You do not have to be an experienced soccer player to enter. We have changed the rules, so that taking action, being creative and bringing your crowd is just as important as scoring goals.

So far this dream has grown to 6 tournaments on 4 continents, and counting. We have teamed up with amazing organizations such as UNDP, Save the Children, GAIN and Women Deliver to make sure that we reach women all over the world. We always hold our Global Final with winning teams from the other tournaments in New York during the UN General Assembly. And we love engaging with the real New Yorkers who live in this great city. The tournaments are one day events (afternoon/evening) with short, intense games with lots of great conversation in between.  There will be surprise VIPs, food, music and cool prizes. GUEST LIST REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR ENTRY! Click here.

We play five-a-side on grass or asphalt–with a special 4 point system where style, action and crowd is scored the same as goals.
• The tournaments are one-day events, played on small five-a-side fields.
• Regular shoes, (no soccer cleats)
• Games last 6-7 minutes
• Depending on number of teams and advancement each team plays 3-5 games.
• Each team has 6-8 players. (Minimum age 18, except for select “Next generation” youth teams)

So are you a passionate about changing your world for the better? Do you know 6 women (friends, teammates, co-workers) who want to play some five-a-side soccer with you? Registration is free, But the number of teams at this championship is limited to max 24.

So your currency is Global Goals Action!

Learn more about Majken & Rikke — the founders of Global Goals World Cup:

“We run the Danish Sports organisation Eir Soccer, that works to create fun, meaningful and safe soccer events for women of all ages. We started with a crazy dream to build a new World Cup for amateur women, where saving the world was part of the score. We believe sport has the power to give us the energy and courage to take that first important step in the right direction and amazingly have fun and create powerful communities and lifelong friends while doing it.

We think the UN Global Goals is the best plan humanity has ever made, and we are committed to help achieve it. We hope you will join us!
