Spain Travel Q&A

Answers to your questions about traveling to the resort, within Spain, and back home!

  • Health Requirements (not related to COVID-19)
    • There are no required vaccines for entering Spain or Portugal. You can check the CDC website for any health issues to consider during your travels.
    • If you take any medication, please remember to bring enough for the duration of your program along with any prescriptions. The prescription should bear the generic name (chemical composition) of the drug, NOT the brand name, since medicines purchased in other countries usually have different brand names; though this prescription may not be enough at pharmacies, it will help a Spanish or Portuguese doctor make a valid prescription.
  • COVID-19
    • The COVID requirements for entry change all the time and are independent to each country. The best website to look at what you need for your particular trip right before you depart is the Sherpa website
    • You do NOT currently need a COVID test to enter either Portugal or Spain from the US – you only need proof of vaccination, including boosters within 270 days of the last shot. The current information is at this Portugal Covid Travel link and this Travel Safe Spain link and we urge our travelers to check them both regularly for updates.
    • You’ll need to complete the Spain Travel Health Form (within 48 hours before your arrival in Spain) and the Portugal Passenger Locator Card (within 4 days of your arrival) so make a note to handle that when the time comes.
    • US Embassy: “U.S. citizens can travel from the United States to Spain: On non-essential travel (such as tourism or business) if they show they are vaccinated or have a recovery certificate. Minors up to 12 years of age do not have to show vaccination or negative COVID test. Minors between 12 and 18 may show they are vaccinated or have a recovery certificate, or a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the trip.”
    • Spain Ministry of Health: “All passengers arriving in Spain by air or sea, including those arriving in transit to other countries, must complete a Health Control Form before departure and obtain their QR to present it at boarding and at health controls on arrival in Spain. When travelling by air, this can be done via the WEB www.spth.gob.es  or the APP, Spain Travel Health-SpTH (available for Android and iOS) .”
    • Sherpa Travel Restrictions
      • “Fully vaccinated travelers are allowed to enter Spain.
      • “Travelers are not required to quarantine on arrival in Spain.”
      • “Vaccinated travelers with a valid certificate are not required to have a negative COVID-19 test result before traveling to Spain.”
      • “Unvaccinated travelers from the United States (see 197 additional countries) must have a negative COVID-19 test result. The test can be a molecular nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT, RT-PCR, RT-LAMP, TMA, HAD, NEAR, CRISPR, SDA) taken a maximum of 72 hours before arrival. Or travelers can have a rapid antigen test result from a test taken a maximum of 24 hours before arrival. The antigen test must be a test included in the list of common tests authorized by the European Commission.”
    • Health Control Form
    • Re-entry into the Unites States
